Jenna and Barb both returned to Atlanta for their first time in a few years during the end of January. We were so happy to have them here to see our new house and spend time with us. Our house has really seemed empty since they headed back to Minnesota.
We had two goals while they were here: 1) decorate our house and 2) get 5 "Are you twins?" comments for Jenna and me. We achieved both (guess who's who in the photos above!) during their stay.
We took the city by storm to decorate two primary areas, our office and our bedroom. We went to stores I had only heard about previously to see what new inspiration we could find. We also went to Atlanta's warehouse district to check out the city's most well-known fabric stores, Lewis & Sheron and Forysth Fabrics. Jenna took home a load of fabric for pillows and curtains, so Barb can work her sewing magic on them for us.
While the sewing projects are still in the works, we got plenty of things done while Barb and Jenna were here. The office was our most significant effort. We created a gallery wall (after months of me pinning them on Pinterest and thinking of the perfect thing to do with my open office walls), as well as changed out the light, got a reading chair, moved in new curtains, added greenery and spiced it up with a few new accessories - whew! It is absolutely amazing. These pictures do not do it justice. This room is by far my favorite in the house now. I am so glad I was brave with the color (Benjamin Moore's Rockport Gray) and Barb and Jenna encouraged me to go for the gallery wall. It is electic and fabulous. And yes, it includes the St. Paul neighborhood print from Ork that I spotted months ago in Minnesota. The light is something I've wanted from Room and Board since we started house hunting - I was lucky and found this floor model on year-end clearance. I couldn't say no and I'm so glad, because it adds a whole new dimension to this space.
We also tackled the drab, gray paint in the bedroom - by going with a pretty dramatic navy blue on the walls and transforming this room. I would have never done this without Barb and Jenna's direction. Blue isn't typically a color I like to decorate with and I didn't envision dark walls in our bedroom. But it is a surprisingly large space and the new color warms it up. Like the other freshly-painted rooms, the woodwork shines against the darker colors. We found some Ikat fabric to freshen up the bed and Jenna helped us hang some different things on the wall.
We also had some fun outside of the home decor realm while they were here. We went to dinner at the Orient Express, took Emma on walks and saw some of Smyrna. And, last but not least, Dana flew through Atlanta on her way from Florida to Minnesota. She and Jenna got in some Atlanta sights, including CNN.
